Pizza Mania 2.0

If you’re reading this, you probably have this question. Yes, you need to create a new account. I purged the old data because the address information lacked Google lat/long. The new system and rider app require this information to provide the best delivery experience.

What’s New?

  • Super fast SMS login with the option to link WhatsApp. Gone are the days of passwords. Le Lapin and Pizza Mania use the same mobile-based login. You only need to register a single number to access both brands.

  • Real-time order tracking.

  • New menu items. We have 18 pizzas, 5 new wings flavors, a bunch of new munchies, and once the go-live period ends, we’ll begin rolling them out and will continue to do so monthly over the next year.

  • We have deals now. This was a highly requested feature.

  • BYO has been overhauled and is now “add any four toppings for a single price.”

  • Half/Half is calculated on the halves you choose instead of a flat price. This was also a highly requested feature.

  • Ordering and scheduling pickup can be arranged for all locations.

  • From today, we have been a strict, no-cash business. QR code and credit card online ONLY. [see below]

  • We’ve implemented a menu-wide price increase [see below]

  • New delivery fee table [see below]

My friend Gautam and I started building the delivery system for Pizza Mania 1.0 over 10 years ago. The ordering platform he spun off, Foodie 24x7, has grown independently, and we’ve remained close friends and advisors to each other. We didn’t anticipate the pandemic chaos when we began work on Pizza Mania 2.0 in February 2020, but we stuck with it. It took this long because we stitched it all together on a cocktail of Upwork, determination, and friendship during a volatile time.

At Pizza Mania and Le Lapin, we battled and survived the pandemic together. We have each other’s backs because our work culture is community-based. Pizza Mania isn’t just a collection of recipes–it’s a group of people focused on you, the customer. We strive to align our values and value proposition to drive excellence in food delivery. Not including myself, Pizza Mania/Le Lapin currently has 60 full-time employees with an average tenure of 5.88 years. The majority of them are delivery personnel.

To the staff, thank you for trusting me enough to wait and understand that I was doing everything possible to make this happen. Pizza Mania & Le Lapin 2.0 is for you. I hope working here is more fulfilling and rewarding, and I hope it makes me a better leader.

I’m grateful to Bangkok and Thailand for the opportunities I’ve been afforded.

We at Pizza Mania look forward to this next chapter and will keep working to ensure the best experience possible for everyone 🙏.

Our Delivery Guarantee

Every Pizza Mania order is delivered by someone who receives paid sick and annual leave, gets social security coverage, and is eligible for a one-month annual bonus.

Every order is a priority—one order, one rider—and we’ve operated that way since day one. Our riders don’t make multiple stops, and most of your Le Lapin orders are delivered the same way. We appreciate and value the individuals who brave the traffic, unbearable temperatures, monsoon rains, and terrible air quality to deliver a pizza or a sandwich on demand. We will always make them a priority at Pizza Mania. Not every delivery will be perfect, but the person at your door is fairly compensated, and you should expect proper customer service.

How We Help Our Team Succeed

  • Micro-loans from the company to avoid high-interest debt traps.

  • Delivery devices and data packages that are fully subsidized.

  • Company parties and outings.

  • 1,500thb every six months for bike repairs.

  • Special incentives for exceptional performance are paid monthly.

  • Free water, internet and access to charging and the benefit of not having to run around all over town with no place to rest.

  • An opportunity to work as a team, develop maturity, and be a better provider for loved ones.

Delivery/Trip Fee Structure [Oct_24]

Riders are always paid a trip fee of 40thb up to 6km and 8km for Le Lapin because we still don’t have a Sukhumvit location. Whatever is charged in delivery after 6km is paid entirely to the rider. If you see 350thb as the delivery charge on the website, the rider is getting that exact amount. It’s logged in their app. If you’re paying less, the company is subsidizing the difference, and you or your community are incredibly valued members of our Pizza Mania family. Delivery charges are designed to be fair to customers, the company, and riders. It’s a delicate balance, but the ability to turn around orders in an optimal radius is essential when you employ your delivery workforce. It’s impossible to grow on the periphery and succeed. We made scheduling pickup orders easier, so please feel free to call your delivery service of choice if you have an alternative delivery preference.*

*Delivery success cannot be guaranteed for 3rd party delivery pickup. Delivery is guaranteed when performed by our team.

Price Increases

I have always publicly announced price increases. This time, pizzas are increasing by 10%, and everything else on the menu is increasing enough to include them in promotions and deals. Le Lapin is getting a 20thb adjustment across all bread sizes.

Pizza Mania

  • 12" Pizzas - 30THB

  • 18" Pizzas - 70THB

  • Pastas - 20THB

  • Salads - variable

  • Munchies - variable

  • Ice Cream - a little more than Tops or Villa.

  • Cokes - 5thb

  • Dips - 10thb

Le Lapin

  • 20thb on every sandwich on each type of bread.

  • Salads - min 20thb

  • Sides - min 20thb

  • Deserts - min 10thb

  • Drinks - as per Pizza Mania

  • Dips - as per Pizza Mania

The following chart lists ingredients whose prices have increased since our last menu-wide price increase in early 2022. This excludes all non-topping increases like packaging, electricity, and platform related costs, which have also increased significantly.

That's why I have to increase prices—it's either that or change the quality of our ingredients, reduce portions, eliminate chili oil packets, and/or make some other unpopular cut. I would rather run a single location than change my recipe. I worked hard on building the product and don't want to compromise on that aspect of the business.

The End of Physical Cash

Effective immediately, we no longer accept physical cash on any order or at the stores.

You can pay with both QR/Mobile Banking and Credit Card at checkout. If you pay by QR, it will be automatically associated with the order, and no verification will be required upon delivery.

Why?

  • Improve safety. We can no longer risk having consequential sums of cash at our stores. We run ghost kitchens, and it has become a security risk, especially at closing.

  • Reduce fraud. Fraudulent orders cost us tens of thousands of Baht each year. It stops with this one change. OTP is also required for all purchases. We are working on a custom checkout with the ability to save your payment details. It should be rolled out by Q1 2025. Once that happens, payments will be processed in seconds at checkout.

  • Increase speed. We want to make great pizza and turn it around. We want our riders to have the opportunity to run more orders and make more money. This is one of the ways I can deliver on that.

We will send you a credit card or QR payment link if you order by phone. The order experience will then proceed identically to a credit card or QR payment. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation.

I’m sure there’s a bunch that I’m missing, but will need to leave it for another day. Excited that this is finally live and we can get back to doing the parts of the business we love. Will keep hustling. 🍕

10 Years

Today marks 10 years since I took over Pizza Mania. An awesome decade of Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights in the kitchen, navigating Bangkok traffic in torrential rain, coups, a pandemic, incredible friendships, cross cultural exchanges and tens of thousands of awesome customers. I never expected to be making pizzas for a living. It just kind of happened, but I’m grateful. This isn’t the end, but it feels like a chapter. Thank you, Bangkok. I got mad love for you. ✌️

Awesome New Website

It's finally here! Read on for a rundown of important changes.

Mobile Responsiveness

We've device tested the hell out of this thing and feel it's a pretty rad experience on all kinds of screens. The tablet version still has a few CSS issues, but we'll have them cleaned up in the next couple of weeks. For many of you, this was the most requested feature, so we put a lot of TLC into it. If your device is having trouble displaying our site, please hit us up. We'll get it fixed.

Online Payment

No more having to get dressed to run to the ATM. Relax and throw on a robe before the delivery guy arrives. We'll add PayPal in the near future. We don't, however, have any plans to add swipe machines, so if you want to pay with a credit card, you'll need to pay online. Our credit card processor is Omise their API is great and their encryption game is strong. So, if you're looking to start an ecommerce site or a rival pizza delivery business check 'em out.

Value Meals

We'll continuously come up with new ones. Check here for flash specials.

Automatic Promo Additions

No more guessing whether a promo applies to your order! If your basket meets the requirements for the promotion, it'll trigger automatically.

BYO pizzas will NOT be included in promotions. We want to make this crystal clear. Adding BYO pizzas will not trigger promotions in the cart. Once we get a feel for how you guys use this module, we'll look into adding that functionality.

Quick Customization

  • Crust & Size: We've done away with the Detroit Style Pizza section. Now you can enjoy any of our pizza creations on the crust of your choice: Neo Neapolitan Wood-Fired, Detroit Pan or NY Style Big Pizzas.
  • Cook Options: It's now easier to have the pizza baked to your preference. In a wood-fired oven it's almost impossible to get a pizza "crisp" due to the high heat. "Well-Done" means more charring and the added time will provide only a little extra crisp to the pizza.  If you want a truly "crispy" pizza we suggest going with the NY Style.
  • Cheese Options: We've made adding extra cheese cheaper and more transparent. Extra cheese is our regular amount x 1.5 and double cheese is x 2.
  • Sauce Options: We are no longer charging for extra sauce. It is from this day forth forever free. If you want it super saucy, we'll make it that way. If you choose "no sauce/white" we'll add extra virgin olive oil to the base.
  • Seasoning Packet: Some of you can't get enough and some of you don't want it at all. Now you can tell us what to do. Pizzas will continue to get a sauce packet by default, but if you've got 100 of them stored up then this is for you.

For Detroit Style Pizzas, if you you'd like the sauce separated, please let us know in the "additional instructions" box.

We will no longer allow additional toppings to our house pies. We apologize if this bothers some of you, but it makes our lives much easier. If you have a dietary restriction or would like a topping removed, tell us in the additional instructions box. If you want to build your own customized pizza masterpiece (or frankenstein - we're not judging!), then we've made it super easy for you...

BYO (Build Your Own)

We have drastically cut prices for toppings and have eliminated the 120THB category altogether. Many of the local vegetable toppings are only 15THB. The majority of our toppings are only 30THB. We've tried to make this as affordable as possible and hope you guys have fun with it. To BYO, click here.

Half/Half Pizzas

Now any pizza can be turned into a half/half combination. We've eliminated all restrictions, so go ahead and order that half seafood/half pepperoni pizza you've always wanted.

By default, the first half will always be the pizza you selected from the homepage. The second half can be whatever you want. You can customize the cheese and sauce for each side also.

If you select a half/half Detroit Style Pizza, you will get what was previously called the "Big Box". The DSP Big box is 8 corner slices. It's awesome, filling and the best pizza deal in Bangkok.

Big Pizzas/18"ers/NY Style

We recognize calling any pizza not made in New York City a "NY Style pizza" is a fools endeavor. We get it. The water's not the same, we don't have access to Grande cheese, we don't have Escalon 5 in 1 tomatoes or All Trumps flour and we don't do slices. Ok, now that's out of the way we want to say that we're making a NY Style inspired product and it's just easier for marketing purposes to call it a NY Style pizza. We have, however, gone to great lengths to make this happen. We've imported a brick-lined Marsal double decker gas oven from NY, have created this recipe from scratch, and have modified our bikes to fit this massive pizza. It's completely different from the wood-fired pizzas, and it's meant to be that way. We may eventually do a 16" pizza because we recognize the 18" is way too big for some of you.

It got damaged on the boat ride over. That was not a fun day.

Massive rider boxes to house the 18"ers.

We'd also like to touch on price. We agree that these pies look expensive. In Bangkok, it's rare to see a 500THB+ pizza. Please remember, however, that they are 2.25x larger than the 12" wood-fired pizzas (3.14*r^2). That's a significant increase in cheese, sauce and imported toppings. Across the board, we've priced these pizzas at 1.65x their wood-fired counterparts. This won't appeal to everyone, and honestly that's not our goal. Our main product will still be the wood-fired neo-neapolitan pizzas, but we hope that for those of you who miss this kind of pizza from home it'll scratch an itch. These pizzas will get better and better the longer we make them.

18" and Detroit Style Pizzas will be available THROUGH THE WEBSITE ONLY. This is temporary! We simply cannot justify the cost required to modify our current backend to be compatible with the new DSP and 18" pizza format on the website. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. It's not optimal but we don't want to wait any longer to launch the website.

Menu Discontinuations

Some pizzas haven't made the cut. We apologize if your favorite pizza didn't make it. The single topping pizzas can be done through the BYO module.

Discontinued Pizzas:

  1. Montebianco (Sorry Lindsay you were the only customer buying this regularly)
  2. Saporita
  3. Sfiziosa
  4. Delizia
  5. Mare e Monti
  6. Indiana
  7. Plain Tandoori Chicken
  8. Tonnara
  9. Olive
  10. Cipolla
  11. Carciofini

Discontinued Pastas:

  1. Penne al Fume (Order Pomodoro add extra cream and bacon.)
  2. Spaghetti Aglio Olio e Peperoncino
  3. Pasticciati (Order Bolognese and add fresh cream)

If you're dying for one of the menu items above, it'll still be available by phone for a few more months until we migrate completely to the new backend application.

New Backend Application

Unfortunately the phone ordering module isn't complete yet; consequently, we'll be running parallel backend applications - one for web orders and another for phone orders. If sometimes you order by phone and other times via the website, only web orders will show up in your online order history. Also, changes to address data and contact details will be reflected in the system in which they're entered. Finally, order tracking will be available for web orders only. Eventually, everything will be merged neatly, so please bear with us until that happens.

Thank You

Doubt many of you made it through all of that, but hopefully it proved informative to some of you. We want to thank everyone for sticking with us when our website sucked. We've worked really hard to improve it and hope you all enjoy using it. Please comment below or send us feedback on ways we can improve the experience. Thanks again for being such amazing customers and people. We truly appreciate each and every one of you!
